I met Jennifer McIntyre through the introduction from a very good family friend of mine Chris Dent. He was asked to re-print her first edition book 'Matilda plays in the Centre'. The artwork of her first edition was created overseas. Everything from the layout design, typography and illustration. Jennifer was so embarrassed to show me the actual printed copy at our first meeting together. After seeing it for myself I was surprised the first edition had sold out, but after reading the story I knew why. Jen had written a great story, unfortunately it just wasn't executed properly. In our first meeting we both agreed to start again from scratch. With a budget in hand, I engaged with many illustrators that I thought would be suited for the job, but so many of them were just unavailable. Fortunately, one of them passed on my details to the illustrator Melanie Matthews. Jen and I agreed that her style of illustration would be well suited for the job so I set up a meeting for us all to meet each other. In that meeting I put forward the strategy that the books that Jen was writing would sit under the title 'A Game called Netball' We all worked together closely and achieved the desired effect that Jen was after, a book that she was proud to show people. The picture story book is netball focused and is written to consolidate a young netballer’s understanding of the game. The book concentrates of the position on the court, in this case the 'Centre' and a selection of netball rules. The rules are explained to also assist parents in their comprehension of the game. With a marketing plan in place, I also helped Jen to get the book sold through the merchandise channels at the Melbourne Vixens and Collingwood Magpies. The new printed edition of book one was so well recieved by young netballers and parents that we started book two immediately.
